Powa Yoga

Hurray! Two weeks in a row. The squats felt great. I just wish it was a little harder, a little more intense and a little longer. I WANT MORE!!!

Not sure if I'll make it to the pool again this week....but with any luck, boarding on Saturday will happen!!

My stroke work felt really good tonight. So good I did 8x25 fly! What?? Why?? But it felt good. It felt smooth. I was taking 2 breaths on the 25, one 1/2 way and one right before the wall. In total I did 450m fly! I think that might be a personal record.

Powa Yoga

When I first arrived in Japan, I went to a Friday night aerobics class at a company gym. There were only a handful of people there, all middle-aged women. The instructor invited to the Wednesday night yoga class, but I always had Japanese lessons. But now, my Wednesdays are free. So, last night Linea and I got on our yoga gear (in my case entirely too many layers) and headed out to the Nyuzen gym. We showed up early and it was already full!! There were young women and old and even a few men. It was one of the biggest community gatherings I've seen besides the festivals and marathons. I haven't done Power Yoga before, but I think I like it. It's a combo of aerobics and yoga. It gets the heart rate up, and I felt the burn, especially in my quads during the endless squats! It was also reminiscent of hot yoga...the heat was turned up!! So my additional layers to keep me warm in usually underheated buildings were completely unecessary! The crazy lady from the Friday night aerobics class was there. And a woman who helped me buy glasses when I first arrived was there. The teacher remembered me too. I guess it's hard to forget "the blonde." Except linea's blonde too, so really there are two blondes in the town. Major confusion could ensue!

I want to make Power Yoga a weekly ritual! It was awesome.

It was lame. I can't even remember what I did! Nothing substantial. I pulled a muscle in my neck from my right ear to my collar bone over the weekend snowboarding. Everytime I took a breath doing freestyle it hurt. Everytime I rotated my arms doing backstroke it hurt. And there is only so much breaststroke I can do. And my right hip hurts when I do breast kick. I'm not trying to complain. But my body wasn't having it today!

45 min of Yoga! Couldn't get myself to the pool, it's a 2-3 hours affair and sometimes there just isn't time or energy!

I needed the stretching before boarding and after a stressful day! Felt great!!

Thursday nights are always crowded because of the kids swim team. I had 4 people in my lane and both the pool ladders, thus, flip turns were a challenge! But, I'm trying to get to the pool 4 times this week. So far, so good!! It's not about quantity, but quality! ha ha ha! I can justify anything---as I eat a cookie!
